Wrapping up summer

The last week of August, my librarian sister came down to see me and our dad – and get to have some one on one sister time with me! Uli and I picked her up at the Amtrak station downtown on a Wednesday evening and she left bright and early on the following Sunday. We packed a lot in, but also got to spend nice quiet time together.

Started the visit out at dads, we took him to get his haircut, lunch at Vinny’s (Happy Landings LOL) where he stuck his head into his sweater because it was cold, then back to their house for an afternoon swim. We did sister time in Fredericksburg, first taking a nice walk on the trails at Belmont where I said “I hope we see some wildlife” and as we started off, saw this gorgeous box turtle! Lovely mossy paths, pretty flowers on the grounds, it was a nice way to start our day. Next up was Sammy T’s for lunch, along with some browsing and buying. I sent the girls a text to let them know what we were planning in case either or both could come up to see their Auntie – when I mentioned that Debra and Mike were going to take Anne’s yoga class on Saturday, Jillian and JB said they were IN! While I worked at the hot studio that morning, they were at the main studio and we all met up for coffee (a sip and sit at JB’s request), walk through the farmers market and a little nosh at Galvin’s Delicatessen before the Richmondites headed back south. Lot’s of treehouse time, I had a photo of a squirrel who was outside the treehouse making a nest but it was too blurry but she was very entertaining to us! Sunday morning and we were up early and out at dawn to get coffee for the train. I made good use of my early Sunday and subbed at the main studio from 8:15-11.

SEPTEMBER

Random things that I took photos of.
1. My bracelets.

  • As I was working at the yoga desk one day, two college students were asking me questions and one said “I love your Italian charm bracelet” and I said “Is that what it is? That’s interesting because my friend who gave it to me, her dad is from Italy!” later that day I did a google image search and turns out, they are making a comeback because of someone on TikTok or Love Island or somewhere. My friend gave this to me as a gift in the late 90s and when I texted her to tell her that I still wear it, she didn’t even remember giving it to me LOL but really, do you remember all of the gifts that you gave to your friends in the 90s? Yeah, me either. But I told her I have loved it and like the way it looks with my other bracelets. The little charms that she got for me wore off, I might get a couple now just to jazz it up.
  • The orange one I got at Natural Mystics after the Monks walked through Fredericksburg for the Walk for Peace. It reminds me to be peaceful.
  • The blue stringy one was a gift from Jess – in our goody bags from our Costa Rica trip, she selected colors for each of us and the little charm says Pura Vida, Spanish for “pure life” but means so much more to Costa Ricans; it is their philosophy of gratitude, relaxation, and community.
  • The tennis bracelet (cubic zirconia) was a gift from Mike’s mom and has the sparkeliest CZs.
  • The faded bead bracelet was Jillian’s from a friend but I love the color, the evil eye bead and the hamza charm. That one comes on and off as it is a little stretched out.

2. The WING! I went into the garage wearing socks and came in with this wing! It was just so cool and intricate, I gave it a good look and took a photo.

3. Same for the little tree frog, I would have missed him if he wasn’t all by his lonesome on the deck railing. He looked like a little kitty loaf sitting there chilling.

4. Iris looking like Smaug on the table (where she doesn’t belong) with Horny hanging behind her getting ready to go to Richmond for Amelia’s new apartment!

5. Amelia’s new apartment! It is called The Gordon House – we love it because we are Gordons!!!!

6. Orlando Bloom, or rather Will Turner. He has moved in with Amelia.

Bye for now, I’ll do another post for the rest of September. It’s October 2nd today and I’m finally spending some time in the treehouse, the acorns are so loud falling from the trees and hitting the roof and the wood deck! BE PEACEFUL!
